What are the separation requirements between ESS equipment?

All batteries must be separated by 3 feet and this must beverified at time of inspection by the inspector per the checklist. It ispossible to install batteries at less than 3 feet if the equipment has beenlisted under UL 9540A, the UL 9540A Report has been approved by the AHJ, andthe manufacturer instructions specify the minimum separation distance that isless than 3 feet. These requirements are also incorporated into our online training program for contractors andinspectors. An example of how this is shown on the inspection checklist isshown below.
