R736 Error Tutorial 1b: Interconnection Location for Sources, PV
Understanding the Issue
Cause:
One of the most common errors is identifying the point of interconnection (POI) for sources and systems. Each inverter and ESS shall locate the first point of interconnection, naming either the busbar or conductor where the source output and house loads meet. If your project has a combiner panel, the inverter and combiner panel should have the same POI.
Troubleshooting Steps
- Upper Electrical Section: Ensure the correct interconnection location is selected for the inverter, energy storage system, and combiner panel.
- Question: Where will Inverter 1 be interconnected?
- Recommended Answer:
- “Main Service Panel” for a load side interconnection
- “Service Feeders” for a lineside interconnection
- Lower Electrical Section:
- Question: Is busbar # subject to backfeed? If a panel has both a utility feed at one end and PV sources at the other, that panel is “subject to backfeed.”
- Recommended Answer: Yes
- Validate with Diagrams: Refer to your system diagrams and confirm that the inputs match. SolarAPP will be confused if you call out the interconnection location as an existing subpanel if you haven’t detailed an existing subpanel.
